Finally we are there to learn that how to file your income tax return online at free of cost.
I don't want to play with your anxiety more, Lets start E-filing
Step 1: First open https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in website and click on " Login Here" button. Now you will redirect to login page. Here your permanent Account Number (PAN) is your User id and password is what you set at the time of registration. Then click on "Login" after enter your Date of birth and Captcha.
Before beginning the task of E-filing of Income tax return, just check your tax credit statement or Form 26AS.
Because the TDS as per your Form 16 must tally with the figure in Form 26AS.
To check your Form 26AS, click on "My Account" option after post login page. There you can find "View Form 26AS form" option to select and then it will redirect to TRACES (TDS reconciliation analysis and correction enabling system) web site. Here you can find your tax credit statement by assessment year. i think you check your tax credit statement (Form 26AS). So now get back to our flow of E-filing process.
Step 2: In post login page, You can find e-File and its drop down menu to select your main moto of this article is "Income Tax Return"
Step 3: There you will get Income Tax Return page to select Assessment year and ITR form Name (Click here to know which form is suitable for you) and submission mode.
Submission mode: if you prepare your return in excel software provided by income tax authority (click here to download the excel software), then select submission mode as "upload XML". OR otherwise select "Prepare and submit online" option.
Then three options will prompt for you to select mode of verification of your income tax return after submission. So, be careful before choosing the option. (Better to select Aadhaar OTP, if your aadhaar is linked with your mobile number or otherwise select EVC mode, if you have online banking facility from one of the nationalized banks)
Then click on "Continue"
Step 4: Now you can see the main pages of E-filing process to file your income tax return online.
Step 5: Just check your PAN number, Name, Contact details, Employer category and type of Return filed options in "Part A General Information" to avoid discrepancies in your return after submission.
Step 6: There you are, the main part of the income tax filing is Income details. Provide your Income details (as per your salary slips, form 16, bank statement) and Investment details done under various sections like 80C, 80CCC, 80CCD, 80D. (But 80G will pickup from separate screen provided at the end of submission). After filling up the respective values, you can find "Total tax" paid by you or going to be paid.
Note: FREQUENTLY YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON "SAVE DRAFT" OPTION PROVIDED AT TOP/BOTTOM OF THE PAGE TO AVOID LOSING OF YOUR FILLED DATA.
Step 7: After Income details, you will find "Tax Details" screen with auto filled tax (TDS, TCS) details paid by your employer or banks or any financial institution etc. (Tax on salary/other income/ incentives / gifts or any extra income). If you cant find your paid tax details, then enter manually as per your form 26AS.
In Taxes Paid And Verification Screen, you can find total TDS / TCS already paid by you and Tax payable, if you pay less tax OR refund tax, if you pay more tax.
In this screen, you have to provide your Bank account details with IFSC code.
Step 8: 80G - please fill the details of donations made by you in the respective financial year.
Now, you are at the end of the task, So please once again check all the important fields like tax paid, tax payable, refund tax, PAN number, Mobile number, Aadhaar Number, Email id and your name. Then click on "Submit" button.
After submission, you have to verify your filed return by using Aadhaar OTP or EVC mode (Electronic verification code) or manually sent to Bangalore CPC (Send the form by ordinary or speed post to the Income-Tax Department-CPC , Post Bag No. 1 , Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore, 560 100, Karnataka within 120 days of filing your returns online) as we selected the option at the beginning of the E-filing.
That's it, you did it successfully.
